2019
Project Name
Hong Kong Kiting and Writing - making and flying kites with powerful messages of hope displayed on them, all as a symbol of our stand against human rights violations in Hong Kong
Packs and snacks volunteering - our very first volunteering session as a club, where we packed sanitary donations for Ruah House
Indigenous rights movie night - a night celebrating Indigenous culture and raising awareness about Indigenous rights
2020
Project Name
flowers for Yasaman - a massive campaign action where we used people power to fold hundreds of origami flowers to raise awareness about women’s rights in Iran and honour the bravery of human rights defenders like Yasaman Aryani. These flowers were sent to the Iranian embassy in Canberra as our stand against the imprisonment of Yasaman Aryani for her activism against forced veiling laws in Iran
Hong Kong panel discussion - one of the biggest events in club history! A night of education, awareness and solidarity where our guest speakers provided important insights into the human rights situation in Hong Kong
- Campaign stalls - an ongoing effort throughout the year to promote human rights engagement and awareness among UWA students. Our yellow stand was a constant on Oak Lawn in 2020, where we engaged students in interactive activities and conversation about a diverse range of issues, from human rights concerns in the extradition of Julian Assange, to human rights violations occurring in Indonesia.
